Spiritual Formation

First Parish offers a range of regular and special programs aimed at deepening our individual and communal spiritual identities. Join us as we seek to build a space where all religious and spiritual backgrounds are not only welcome, but integral contributors to our faith community. As iron sharpens iron, so let us strengthen one another in our search for truth and meaning.

Small Groups

Our small groups include around 90 members and friends and meet monthly for deep reflection on our spiritual and personal journeys. If you are thinking you would like to join an existing group, or join a newly forming group, please contact our Ministerial Intern, Sarah Klockowski (sarah@fplincoln.org).

FPL’s Meditation group meets every Tuesday from 4-5:30pm. We welcome everyone, those experienced in meditation and those new to the practice. People come from the First Parish, from Lincoln, and from surrounding towns. Our sittings include silent or guided meditation (on chairs and the occasional cushion), walking meditation, reading together, mindful discussion, and metta practice (prayers for others).  We follow the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, who encourages us to combine our meditation practice and our community (called a Sangha in Buddhist terms) with our root faiths. We hope you can join us.

Nature and Walking Groups

At First Parish, connecting with nature is one way we explore and deepen our faith. Watch for one of our many outdoor programs held throughout the year, including the Meditative Hikers, Forest Bathing, or a spontaneous Walk to Walden!

Engaging Sacred Texts

Join our small group of seekers as we explore sacred texts through lectio divina, historical context, and personal reflection. We meet Thursdays from 12-1pm. All are welcome!

Recent series have included Life of Christ, the Hebrew Prophets, and the Divine Feminine. Our fall 2021 series will explore the life and writings of Paul, as well as the formation of the Hebrew and Christian scriptures.

Workshops and Retreats

Ministerial staff and lay leaders collaborate throughout the year to hold various spiritual retreats and workshops. Recent events have included the Labyrinth of Light, Aging with Wisdom, Winter Blues Retreat, and Hygge for Beginners.
