New Small Groups at First Parish in Lincoln
Building community…deepening relationships

What is a small group?

A small group is an intentional community within the larger community of First Parish in Lincoln. Small groups are made up of 6-10 people who commit to meeting regularly for at least a year.

Small groups began at FPL over 20 years ago…and five different groups are still going strong today! Groups support each other through life transitions, joys, losses, etc. They often bring people together for the long haul.

More recently, we have also offered several “Soul Matters” groups, which follow a spiritual curriculum from the Unitarian Universalists.

What does a small group offer that’s different from other church programming?

A small group offers the chance to connect more deeply with those around you.

Over time, you build trust in a non-judgmental setting. Unlike other programs, the main topic in most small groups is you. You are free to share what is going on in your life, to take inspiration from others, and to offer support.

What do groups talk about?

Each group is run slightly differently, according to the vision of their facilitator and the needs of the group. But most groups include a time for checking in, sharing highs and lows, and a chance to talk about a topic (sometimes spiritual, sometimes not!). The vibe is informal, friendly, and welcoming.

What is the commitment?

Each group meets approximately every month during the year, and members are encouraged to join as often as they can.

How do I join a small group?

For a long time, small groups operated independently at FPL, and joining a group could be a challenge. In this season of growth, we are excited to be launching several new small groups, open to everyone!
