Building Use Update: September 2020
The Parish Committee, upon the advice of the Safe Congregations Task Force, has decided that our buildings will remain closed to parishioners and the community until at least January 15. We understand the temporary loss of many traditions is disappointing – including our beloved Christmas Eve in the sanctuary. Nevertheless, most of our UUA and UCC churches also feel compelled to keep their buildings closed.
Staff are returning to their offices with safety protocols outlined by Silvia Dieckow, our new Parish Administrator. Church business meetings, small groups and educational activities should all continue online unless an outdoor venue can be arranged that allows for a minimum of 6 feet distance between non-family members. Masks should be worn when not eating or drinking when on church grounds.
All outdoor church meetings should be scheduled with Silvia. For example, parishioners have asked to use the rainbow chairs and others have asked to use the patio behind the sanctuary. The rainbow chairs must be kept 6 feet apart. People using the chairs are reminded to wear masks and sanitize the chairs between every use.
If a congregant has a special need to enter any of our buildings for any reason, please contact Silvia for permission. Silvia organizes cleaning, maintains a contact tracing log, and schedules who is using what parts of the church campus.
As you can see, church leadership is approaching the virus somewhat conservatively. We love our congregants and we feel a duty to protect you from exposure. Of course, if the data begins to trend favorably, we will joyfully revisit the issue.
May you be safe as we enjoy the bounties of late summer.
