There are many ways to connect and contribute at First Parish! Please complete a sign-up message below if you are interested in any of these activities:
ADULT PROGRAMS: Works with Ministerial staff and church committees to develop classes, workshops, and discussions with a focus on spiritual, religious and moral topics. Also supports Small Groups, Meditation and FPL Book Group.
BELL CHOIR: Rings in church service four times a year, presents an annual Christmas concert, and performs in the area. Rehearses weekly Thursday afternoons. Welcomes new members. No experience needed, an ability to read music is preferable.
CARE COMMITTEE: Provides care to any parish member seeking comfort, strength, or connection during times of illness, major life transitions, or not being able to get to church. This can include cooking meals, singing with the By Your Side Singers, sending cards, or visiting those in need, as you are able.
CHOIR: Infuses choral inspiration into each Sunday church service. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings 7-9 PM and Sundays 9-10 AM. Welcomes new members.
COMMUNITY GARDEN: Creates a nurturing space for growing nutritious food and making connections to one other and the living earth and provides fresh produce for local food pantries.
FACILITIES COMMITTEE: Identifies and manages space needs, capital improvements and larger maintenance.
FLOWER COMMITTEE: Provides Altar flowers each Sunday. Flowers are given and paid for by a parishioner to celebrate an occasion or in memory of someone special. Flowers can be arranged by a member of the committee or by a local florist.
GENEROUS GIVING: Generous Giving Committee is responsible for designing the plans and executing the processes needed to ensure that financial support from the congregation is available to provide for the operation and mission of First Parish.
GREEN: Coordinates the congregation’s commitment to “cherish the living earth” with a focus on activities addressing climate change/environment – promoting the switch to renewable energy.
HOSPITALITY: Provides light refreshments for the “Coffee Hour” after church each Sunday. A two person Team commits to one Sunday each month (September-June). “Extras” are frequently needed to provide extra cookies or help with holidays!
OUTREACH/SOCIAL ACTION : Coordinates and allocates funds and faith-in-action programs. Welcomes volunteers for one-time and long-term commitments to local projects.
PERSONNEL: Assists the Parish Committee and Minister with employee related matters, maintains and fulfills the personnel policies, is appointed by the Parish Committee.
SMALL GROUPS: Meet monthly to deepen and expand the personal connections and ministry of the congregation. These lay led groups welcome new members when there are openings, and a new group, Open Circle, is open to all joining at any time. New groups can be formed at any time.
USHERING: Greets parishioners entering for Sunday service. Four ushers are needed each Sunday. Please consider ushering at least once this year. If you are new we will pair you with a seasoned usher. Let us know if you have a preferred month.
WELCOMING: Reaches out to new members, helps them integrate into the community and provides social events. Join to help meet and greet new First Parish members!
YOUTH PROGRAMS: Needs people to invest their time in our young people. We need teachers of any age/experience. We also need Boosters who will help support our special events like the Open House, Advent Workshop, Xmas Pageant, teacher appreciation brunch and Celebration Sunday. Contact us to learn more about teaching, helping to bake, set-up or break-down an event, or staff an event (1-2 hr. commitment).
WORKER BEES: Respond to last minute calls for help. If you cannot commit to anything long term right now but would love to be called for a one-time task when help is needed, please let us know!
COMMENTS: In the form below, you can list your interests or skills, and please share any other information that would help us get to know you/your interests in our church community (your hobbies, intellectual interests, your civic passions) – or any ideas you have for events, discussions and social action at our church!
