The FPL Racial Justice Journey continues on January 6 with a transition from our first module, History, to our next module, Issues, by screening the award winning PBS documentary, The Long Shadow. The Long Shadow gives us a summary of racism in America from its beginnings to recent times.  Emmy Award- winning director, Frances Causey, traces her family’s legacy of plantation-owning in the South and continues the story into the 20th century. She begins in the South and continues across the country—and even into Canada—and it is a compelling summary.

This January 6 documentary also shows us the origins of the use of Confederate Flags and the language that we saw on January 6, 2021, illustrating again the truth that James Baldwin expresses—'”History is not the past. It is the present. We carry our history with us. We are our history.”

Please join us on the 6th for this last meeting of the History Module and then again on January 13 as we begin the Issues Module.
