All that She Carried is a national book award winner for 2021 and has been selected as one of the best books of 2021 by Time, Washington Post and New York Times.  Join us on Zoom to hear the author’s talk at the Concord Museum. Harvard Professor Miles is an impressive speaker as well as writer and historian.  This presentation was recommended by Ray Shepard who will introduce the video screening.

Professor Miles writes about Rose, an enslaved mother, who learns that Ashley, her nine year old daughter, will be sold.  To provide sustenance and support, she packs a sack for her.  Professor Miles speaks movingly and interestingly about the sack and analyzes the objects so carefully chosen for the beloved nine year old.

A braid of hair
Pecans
A tattered dress
And the large sack

And, years later Ashely’s granddaughter lovingly embroiders the story on the sack.

Please join us for this distinguished professor’s talk.
