Join us for a viewing of an interview with Ken Burns and Isabel Wilkerson in conversation about our history. Both of these remarkable storytellers believe that grappling with the past leads us forward. They are both “optimistic” (Burns) and “hopeful” (Wilkerson) about the future and concerned about the present.
Isabel Wilkerson, the first African American to win a Pulitzer Prize in Journalism, is the author of our most recent book read, The Warmth of Other Suns. Her more recent book, Caste, is another masterpiece that is changing how we view ourselves.
Ken Burns has been making documentary films for over 40 years, and his films have received dozens of major awards. The moderator of this conversation, Lynnette Clemetson, is a long time journalist, having worked for Newsweek, The New York Times and NPR. She is now director of Wallace House at the University of Michigan.
We can learn so much about history and how it informs our present from this interview. The insights are remarkable! Please join us.
