AGING WITH WISDOM:
GIFTS, CHALLENGES and the PATH OF AWAKENING
AN ONLINE RETREAT
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2020
9AM – 12PM
Many of us find ourselves dealing with issues around aging and how to respond creatively to this new phase in our lives. We may notice a quiet pull toward deeper, more committed practice. We may be propelled by the recognition that our mortality is closer. Or we may be living with new concerns about the reality of old age, sickness and death.
The Adult Programs Committee is pleased to announce a half-day online retreat on Zoom to explore the gifts, the emotions and challenges of aging through talks, meditation and small group sharing. During this retreat we’ll learn about the inspiration of elders who are “wayshowers”, about death and dying as the ultimate teacher and how to find purpose and meaning as we age.

To lead us on this adventure we have invited Olivia Hoblitzelle, a writer, therapist, and teacher who helped pioneer the integration of meditation, yoga, and cognitive therapy with traditional Western medicine. She worked with Harvard Medical School to train health professionals in new approaches to health and healing and has had over 40 years of practice in Buddhism, psychology and the wisdom traditions. Ms. Hoblitzelle is author of Ten Thousand Joys and Ten Thousand Sorrows: A Couple’s Journey Through Alzheimer’s and Aging With Wisdom: Reflections, Stories and Teachings. (recommended reading)
Although aging is often viewed by our prevailing culture as a time of loss and diminishment, the elder years are filled with opportunities for growth, reflection, and deepening in wisdom and love. We will explore a new paradigm for aging in order to discover the gifts so often hidden in the inevitable challenges of later life. Since aging is a timeless process whatever your age – anyone drawn to this exploration is warmly welcome. Register for the retreat no later than Monday, November 9th at sarah@fplincoln.org
