Becoming a Member

The path to membership at First Parish in Lincoln is unique to you. The numbers of services you attend, the types of other church activities you engage in, and ultimately the length of time it takes to reach your decision about whether First Parish feels like your spiritual home is your choice.

Attend Services.

Just come. There’s no need to let anyone know in advance. Whether you want to sit unnoticed at the back of the Sanctuary or walk right up to the front, all are welcome here. If you want us to get in touch, complete the card found in the pew racks in the Sanctuary and leave it in an offering tray.

Let us get to know you. Learn about us.

Join us for the coffee hour in the Stearns Room behind the Sanctuary after the service! Introduce yourself (we’re very friendly!). Ask questions, or check out the information table. We encourage you to ask to receive our monthly Parish News, weekly news briefs and a nametag.

Get involved.

An important part of our ministry – both within and beyond our community — is our commitment to service. We have many educational, spiritual and community service opportunities. Whether you’ve got just an occasional day, or have a lot of time on your hands, we’ve got something for you. Many people ease into First Parish through one of our Small Groups whose purpose are to build personal and spiritual connections. Others check out one of our many programs for adults or religious exploration for children and youth.

Dig Deeper.

Attend one of our introductory sessions about the benefits and responsibilities of member-ship the First Parish in Lincoln which are offered periodically throughout the year and promoted in the Parish News and order-of-service announcements. Feel free to meet with our minister, a membership committee member or a Deacon so we may learn more about you, what you are seeking in a spiritual home, and learn how the congregation can best minister to you.

Membership.

If you decide that First Parish in Lincoln is “your church”, the next step is to sign our membership book. In doing so, you are adding your name to those of the hundreds of people who have come before you in the history of the church. We hold new members signing ceremonies during worship services once or twice a year. If you are unable to participate on one of these ceremonies, you are welcome to join at any time, just make arrangements with the minister. As a member of the First Parish in Lincoln, you will have a greater sense of belonging, full voting rights regarding the annual budget and calling of a senior minister. We look forward to your active participation in the life of our beloved church. Your presence, your skills, your time and your financial support make our covenant possible.
